Free Comedy Show for Worcester Public School Teachers

“Nationally known comedian and Worcester native Orlando Baxter is doing a free comedy show for (and only for) Worcester Public Schools teachers and staff, via Zoom, on Thursday, Oct. 22. You must have a Worcester Public Schools email address to watch this virtual event. All Worcester Public School teachers and staff have to do to join the show is go to orlandobaxter.com, click the link for Worcester public school, click and it will give them the information and will send them the link to watch a day or two before the show.”

Worcester educators oppose mandate to deliver remote lessons from school buildings

The Educational Association of Worcester opposes Superintendent Maureen Binienda’s directive that all educators must work in school buildings while delivering remote lessons.

The district plans to begin the school year with remote learning and to phase in a return to in-person learning. Yet the district is demanding all educators work from school buildings, despite the risk of spreading COVID-19.

“The city must reverse the plan that forces educators into potentially unsafe working conditions. URGENT ACTION NEEDED TODAY!

PLEASE CALL AND EMAIL EDUCATION COMMISSIONER JEFF RILEY BY NOON TODAY!

Introduce yourself and state the school district that you work in. Then deliver this message (demands):

1. Adjust the 180-day calendar to allow for 10 days for Phase 1 of the MTA/AFT/BTU Reopening Plan.

2. Cancel the requirement for fully in-person learning plans.

3. Issue a requirement there has to be an environmental health and safety assessment of every building.

4. Tie reopening school buildings to Covid-19 benchmarks.

Please let us know the actions you took and the response you receive. You can respond below in the comments.

These actions are in response to negotiations with Commissioner Riley and our statewide organizing campaign to win a safe way to resume learning in the fall. The campaign is informed by twice-weekly caucus meetings with local association leaders and activists.
